IMPORTANT NOTES:
|
Due to the rarity of the Nihon Ken breeds, we aim to place puppies in co-ownerships and co-operative breeding homes based on suitability for both the owner and the dog.
Our puppies are sold under contract which requires them to be at least two years old before they are spayed or neutered. This allows us to evaluate the puppies for future preservation. This includes all puppies bred by Ounoki Kensha, not just those on co-ownership.
Our contract also states that we must be contacted in the circumstances that you need to return or rehome your puppy. Ounoki Kensha will always accept our puppies back, and we require rehoming to be done through us to ensure our puppies stay safe, and out of shelters. Our puppies are part of us, and we will always accept them back at any point in their life, no matter the age or conditions behind your need to rehome.
Our puppies will be socialised in all areas and from a young age. Puppies will be evaluated at various ages so they can be matched appropriately to the right owner. We typically do not allow owners to pick their puppies, as we want to match you with the right dog for your lifestyle.
We typically will be placing puppies based on suitability based on what you have told me about yourself and what you are expecting of your Kai, so if there is not a puppy suitable for your direct we may suggest, if you are willing, to wait until a future litter.
We do not expect any form of payment until the puppies are 6 weeks old, in which we will take a deposit from you. On collection of your puppy, you can pay the remaining price in full, or you are welcome to pay bit by bit in the weeks coming up to collection. The cost of the puppy MUST be paid in full before your puppy leaves.
The price of our puppies is £2000, which includes paperwork, a puppy pack and Embark DNA sample. We will also screen the puppy for Transitional Vertebra at 2 years old at my cost. If your puppy should become affected by this condition, we will take full responsibility as your breeder and offer unconditional support, emotionally and financially.
Our puppies are FCI registered through the Irish Kennel Club.
As part of the Ounoki Kensha family, you will have lifetime support.
At Ounoki Kensha, our priority has been to allow our foundation dogs to grow and mature. As Nihon Ken are slow maturing breeds, we will not breed any dog under two years old, ideally three years old.
Kai Ken often have small litters. We are expecting 2-4 puppies, so even if you are confirmed to be on our wait list, you may not get a puppy immediately.
WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS OR HOLDING A WAIT LIST.
Due to many people dropping off our list, we have decided to close our formal 'wait list' and instead open this when and if breeding's happen and puppies are available. If you would like to get in touch, please contact us via our email or on the website contact box.
If you have sent in a puppy application prior to this change but have not heard back, please email us at [email protected] as the application may not have got through to us.

Import Opportunities
Occasionally we may seek co-own or co-operative breeding homes for new imports into the UK. We are currently hoping to import more Kai from Japan within the next couple of years with the hopes of placing with prospective owners who are willing to allow us to keep the puppy intact for future breeding. The cost of the puppy must be covered by the owner, however we will assist with the importation as well as all costs associated with health testing and breeding.

Stud Dogs
We currently own two male Kai Ken who may be available for stud to selected bitches once they have reached 2 years of age and passed their health testing.
Bitches must be fully health tested, FCI, AKC-FSS or KKA registered and must be eligible for breeding (no endorsements).
